Programme Aim & Objectives:
The overall aim of the programme is to provide students with academic
and vocational grounding in football as an academic subject from a
variety of disciplinary perspectives, organized into three themes:
Football administration, management and development.
Football coaching and science.
Football and society.
On completing the course, students will be able to:
Critically debate major theoretical and practical issues relevant to
the study of football from a variety of disciplinary perspectives.
Have a clear understanding of the structure of football, and its
social, economic, cultural and political role and importance within
contemporary society.
Understand the underlying anatomical, physiological and sociological
principles of football participation within contemporary society.
Understand the theory underlying the management and administration of
football at a micro-management level.
Understand the social and psychological principles underlying football
spectatorship.
Express themselves fluently both in written and verbal form to a level
which will enhance employment prospects and general personal
performance.
Initiate and plan academic research projects in football by optimizing
the knowledge and competence base acquired during the programme.
